Port-au-Prince, September 11, 2025.- The Haitian government, in collaboration with the National Police of Haiti (PNH), is conducting a large-scale clean-up and rehabilitation operation in downtown Port-au-Prince in order to allow the return to normal life in areas long controlled by armed groups.
For several weeks now, the public authorities have been stepping up their efforts to restore a normal atmosphere in the capital. Coordinated actions between the Government, the MTPTC and the National Police are aimed at clearing the streets of debris, lifting carcasses of abandoned vehicles and repairing damaged infrastructure.
According to the figures, more than 1,000 cubic metres of waste and about 200 car carcasses have already been removed, facilitating traffic along strategic axes.
The Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications has mobilized a large logistical arsenal of tractors, excavators, dump trucks and other heavy equipment to rehabilitate long-degraded public roads.
In areas such as Rue Capois, cleaning progresses quickly, giving residents the opportunity to move freely in a safer and cleaner environment.
This initiative, according to the officials, aims not only to prepare the school year in acceptable conditions, but also to allow traders and local residents to resume their activities in serenity.
The Government calls on the public to work closely together to ensure that these joint efforts are successful, both in terms of security and socio-economic benefits.
These operations mark a symbolic step in the authorities' desire to restore order, cleanliness and trust in the capital. By building on unity and collective mobilization, the government hopes to pave the way for a lasting revival and a renewed image of Port-au-Prince.
