Port-au-Prince, August 11, 2025.- The Environmental Platform of the Haitian Civil Society (PLESCH) elected, on August 5, its very first Interim Executive Council, marking a key step to strengthen citizen participation in environmental governance. Supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), this initiative brings together fourteen organizations committed to working together to address the country's environmental challenges.

In a context of environmental emergency, Haitian civil society is developing a new tool for coordination and representation: the Environmental Platform of Haitian Civil Society (PLESCH). A result of the collaboration of fourteen organizations, and supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), PLESCH intends to play a leading role in building inclusive environmental policies and actions.

The election of the first Provisional Executive Council was held online on 5 August 2025, with the participation of nine founding member organizations. Patrick Saint-Pré (ACLEDD) will take the Chair, alongside Ericca Johanna Deborah Lagrandeur (CAPEELAG), Vice-President, and Sonel Joseph (Koze Jèn Yo), Treasurer. Their six-month mandate aims to officially launch the platform, increase its visibility, mobilize new members across the country and finalize its administrative documents.

This creation is part of the 2006 decree on environmental management and aims to fill the gap in the representation of civil society in environmental consultation bodies, both at national and international level.

Non-partisan and inclusive, PLESCH will work closely with the Ministry of Environment and other institutional actors to bring the voices of communities and contribute to a sustainable future for Haiti.
