The Court of Cassation officially closed the judicial year 2025-2026 on Friday, 31 July, at an extraordinary and public hearing. Prior to the closure of this exercise, the First Section of the Court delivered six judgements in several cases, including two urgent cases and four ordinary cases. The President of the Court of Cassation and the Supreme Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ), Jean-Joseph Lebrun, then declared the judicial year closed throughout the national territory.
During the ceremony, the leaders of the judiciary presented the main achievements of the past year. Progress has been made in setting up two specialised judicial centres, launching the criminal code reform process, strengthening the Court's case law, creating a legal journal and launching the institution's new website.
However, the President of the Court of Cassation acknowledged that several challenges persist, including the insecurity that disrupts the functioning of the judicial system, the protection of judges and judicial personnel, and the fight against impunity. According to Jean-Joseph Lebrun, the restoration of a stable security climate remains indispensable to guarantee the independence of justice and to consolidate the rule of law in Haiti.
