The Haitian political class took this Sunday, February 1, 2026, a new step in the search for a solution to the governance crisis by agreeing on the establishment of a bicephalous executive. Meeting at the Oasis Hotel in Petion-Ville, political leaders and representatives of civil society, adopted the principle of a presidency given to a judge of the Court of Cassation from 7 February, an option presented as a transitional compromise.
To achieve this direction, a commission composed of Djina Guillet Delatour, Annibal Coffy, Jean Renel Sénatus, Jeantel Joseph and Jonas Coffy was mandated. It is expected to consult with the magistrates of the High Court and meet with the CPT (Presiding Council of Transition) on 2 February to verify the availability of the future president to serve the country. If no judge is available, the assembly will turn to a prominent political figure to assume this responsibility.
Exchanges were held with the mediation of the interreligious group, notably the king of vodou Augustin Saint Clous, Pastor Sylvain Exantus and Calixte Fleuridor. This convergence between political and religious elites reflects a desire to build a peaceful framework for the post-7 February. The final choice, however, whether it comes from the Cassation or from consensual political leadership, remains conditional on the consultations initiated and the report expected in the next few hours.
