Washington, 14 January 2026.- On Wednesday, the United States announced the suspension of immigration visa processing for 75 countries, a new flagship measure of the restrictive migration policy pursued by Donald Trump's administration since his return to power. The decision comes in a context of unprecedented tightening of controls and expulsions.
According to a spokesman for the US State Department, « immigration visa processing is suspended for 75 countries », without a precise timetable for a possible resumption. The measure, relayed by the White House, includes nationals of countries such as Somalia, Russia, Afghanistan, Brazil, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Nigeria, Thailand and Yemen. However, it does not apply to tourist or business visas, although the administration has announced a strengthening of the checks, including the systematic examination of the applicants' social networks.
This decision is part of Donald Trump's stated desire to reduce non-European immigration. The US President has multiplied the controversial statements on the migration issue, while supporting the reception of migrants from European countries, including Scandinavian countries. The State Department has also revealed that it has revoked more than 100,000 visas since Trump's return to the White House, a record figure over a year.
Last month, the Department of Internal Security reported that more than 605,000 people had been expelled from US territory, while another 2.5 million reportedly left the country voluntarily. These figures illustrate the scale of the migration shift initiated by the Trump administration, which continues to generate strong reactions both in the United States and internationally.
