Washington, 14 July 2025.- In full intensification of efforts to restore peace in Haiti, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé met on Monday with US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau in Washington. This strategic meeting focused on the current security challenges, the restoration of constitutional order and mutual commitment to strengthen political stability in Haiti. The United States reiterated its support for the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS), while calling for greater sharing of international responsibilities.
At this meeting, Deputy Secretary Christopher Landau expressed his deep concern at the continuing security crisis in Haiti, which he described as a direct threat to the regional and national security of the United States. A finding shared by the Haitian Prime Minister, who insisted on the urgency of more coordinated international support to stem violence and restore order.
Both officials stressed the vital importance of restoring the constitutional order in Haiti and strengthening democratic institutions, now weakened by insecurity and political instability. In this context, support for MSS remains crucial, but Washington now insists on better burden-sharing between contributing countries.
Furthermore, Christopher Landau reaffirmed the firm commitment of the United States to prosecute and punish all those who undermine Haiti's stability. He promised to use all available tools including targeted sanctions, visa restrictions and other punitive measures against individuals involved in violence or corruption.
