Paris, 28 November 2025.- At the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in Paris, the Haitian Minister of Culture Patrick Delatour, accompanied by Ambassador Lilas Desquiron, met the new Director General of UNESCO, Khaled El-Enany. This meeting, held on 26 November, revives a cooperation begun in 1978 and always essential to the preservation of Haitian heritage.
Patrick Delatour recalled that the partnership between Haiti and UNESCO was rooted in 1978, when the international organization had accompanied the country in the restoration of the monuments of the National Historic Park, now a World Heritage Site. Since then, UNESCO has played a strategic role in structuring Haitian cultural institutions, training local experts and supporting large conservation projects.
Faced with the new Director General, Khaled El-Enany, already familiar with Cap-Haitien and the Citadelle Laferrière, the minister welcomed a common vision: to continue the restoration of historical sites and encourage their transformation into living museum spaces. The interview highlighted a shared desire to strengthen technical support and to open a new chapter for the development of Haitian heritage, a pillar of memory and national reconstruction.
The Paris meeting marks much more than a protocol exchange: it reactivates a decisive cultural alliance for Haiti. By strengthening ties with UNESCO, Patrick Delatour is building on an essential lever to protect, restore and transmit the national heritage. A strong signal, which opens the way for new projects and a more ambitious exploitation of the Haitian heritage.
