Cap-Haitien, July 16, 2025.-The American authorities proceeded to the expulsion of Haitian blogger and influencer Hervé Laplante, as well as other people, to Haiti, this Wednesday, according to the immigration and customs services of the United States. He was detained at the Baker detention centre in Macclenny, Florida, and was accused of having obtained his immigration status fraudulently, being married simultaneously to two women.

Born in Pétion-Ville, Hervé Laplante is a former radio host. He was the subject of a final order for removal since 18 October 2024 for immigration fraud, having attempted to obtain a visa by deliberately concealing information. After a media career in Haiti, he moved to Canada in 2008, then to Jacksonville, USA, where he founded a company in 2014 that is now inactive.

Known for its provocative jokes and its often virulent publications targeting Haitian personalities, Laplante was himself qualified as « scandal journalist ». In an interview, he explained that he chose this path to « pepper » a media industry which he considered unexplored. Very followed on social networks, his arrest surprised many members of the Haitian community.
