Despite differing announcements, the Haitian Executive commemorated, this Thursday, August 14, the 234 years of the ceremony of the Bois-Caïman through lectures-debates and cultural activities organized in Lakou Breda, Cap-Haitien. On this occasion, the Primature paid tribute to the legacy of Bois-Caiman, calling for a return to unity, determination and sacrifice to face the country's current challenges.
The Haitian government has allocated an envelope of 100 million gourdes to finance the festivities, including official ceremonies, voodoo rituals, as well as a craft fair organized in Cap-Haitien. These celebrations are part of a dynamic of national commemoration, with cultural and symbolic events planned in several departments.
The Minister of Culture, Patrick Delatour, announced a series of performances, concerts and plays, as well as projects to rehabilitate major historic sites.

However, while the government put forward a programme rich in cultural activities, the Presidency, for its part, stressed the symbolic and legal importance of 14 August, recognized as a national holiday.
This gap between the Presidency and the Primature reveals a lack of coordination within the Executive. While the Presidency insists on the solemnity of this date, it has remained silent about the festivities announced, raising questions about their actual realization.
Despite these differences, the authorities call the population to unity, in order to honor the struggles of the ancestors and to reaffirm the fundamental values of Haitian culture and sovereignty. They encourage every citizen to draw on this memory to build a more secure, prosperous and supportive Haiti.
