The Minister of National Education and Vocational Training, Dr. Vijonet Demeroon Friday, May 15, 2026, at the Karibe Hotel, on the occasion of a tribute ceremony dedicated to Haitian educators. In this speech, the holder of the MENFP presented his vision of educational reform, paid tribute to the teaching profession and addressed several challenges related to the national education system. I take the floor this morning at this tribute ceremony to salute the commitment, courage and persistence of our educators. You give yourself body and soul to the formation of citizens, thus continuing the project of socio-economic independence of our dear homeland.
First of all, I would like to acknowledge the enlightened leadership of the Prime Minister, His Excellency Mr. Alix Didier Son-Aimé, in the conduct of the State. My greetings also go to my government colleagues for the sense of unity and collaboration they show in pursuing our common vision. I would like to associate with this tribute the members of my cabinet, the Directors and Inspectors General, the Technical and Departmental Directors, as well as all managers, administrative and support staff. Your spirit of sacrifice honours the priorities of the ministry. My gratitude goes also to parents, trade unions, students, students and technical and financial partners for their essential contribution to our education system.
Since my installation, my actions have been guided by the four government priorities: security, sound state management, economic recovery and election preparations. In order to achieve this, I focus on the three areas identified by the Prime Minister during our retreat: quality, accessibility for all and vocational training.
These two and a half months at the head of the ministry have strengthened a certainty: the long-awaited change will not happen without the effective contribution of our teachers. Nothing is possible without their presence in the classroom or without their initial and continuing training. Together with my team, we are convinced that the reform of the system requires better preparation of our educators and a legitimate upgrading of their treatment.

Depuis ma prise de fonction, en parfaite synergie avec le Premier Ministre, j’insiste sur un changement profond de paradigme. Nous introduisons des concepts d’actualité incontournables pour bâtir une réforme curriculaire ancrée dans les besoins réels de la société haïtienne. Ces axes incluent l’éducation citoyenne, l’éducation économique et financière, l’éducation numérique, l’orientation scolaire et professionnelle à travers le programme « Mon Plan pour Demain », ainsi que la santé mentale et le bien-être en milieu scolaire. Toutefois, une telle réforme restera vaine sans l’affirmation claire d’une véritable philosophie de l’éducation pour Haïti.
Chers collègues, restons réalistes et lucides. Je n’ai pas la prétention de résoudre, à moi seul, tous les problèmes structurels de ce ministère. Mes éminents prédécesseurs, les professeurs Augustin Antoine, Nesmy Manigat, Pierre Agénor Cadet ou encore Vanneur Pierre, s’y sont attelés avec dévouement, mais la tâche reste immense. Mon objectif est d’accomplir le maximum de ce que l’État, les cadres du ministère, les syndicats, les parents et nos partenaires me permettront de réaliser. Notre priorité absolue est de restaurer la santé organisationnelle de cette institution, garantissant ainsi une transition stable jusqu’à l’installation d’un gouvernement constitutionnel en février 2027. Très chers collègues, avant de poursuivre, je vous invite à observer une minute de recueillement à la mémoire du professeur Bernard Brousseau, tragiquement arraché à notre affection par la violence aveugle des gangs. (Pause) Merci.
À l’occasion de cette Semaine d’Appréciation des Éducateurs, je veux vous exprimer ma profonde gratitude pour votre fidélité et votre dévouement quotidien envers la jeunesse de notre pays. Votre rôle est fondateur : votre influence dépasse les murs de la classe pour façonner les cœurs et les esprits indispensables à la refondation sociale et économique d’Haïti.
Nous vivons à une époque de surinformation sans précédent, où le savoir semble accessible en un simple clic. Vous avez certainement déjà entendu un élève demander : « Pourquoi apprendre ce que je peux trouver sur Internet ? ». À cette interrogation, permettez-moi de répondre par cette vérité intemporelle tirée des Proverbes : « La sagesse est la chose principale ; acquiers donc la sagesse, et avec elle, acquiers l’intelligence ».
C’est précisément là que réside votre valeur ajoutée. Grâce à vos conseils, les élèves apprennent à transformer l’information brute en discernement. Sans sagesse, la connaissance n’est qu’un ensemble de faits stériles. Par votre leadership, vous leur apprenez à utiliser leur savoir d’une manière qui honore leur dignité, leurs parents, la patrie et le Créateur. Le MENFP vous salue pour ce sacerdoce qui arme nos enfants face aux défis de la vie. Merci d’avoir répondu à cet appel.
