Municipal Security Tips: One more step to protect the citizens of the Great South

The National Federation of Mayors of Haiti (FENAMH), with the support of the Ministry of Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT), has installed the Municipal Security Councils in the 59 communes of the Great South, from 29 August to 6 September 2025, in order to strengthen security and local cohesion.

To meet security challenges and ensure better coordination between state actors, FENAMH has set up Municipal Security Councils (CSMs) in all municipalities in the Greater South. Each MSC brings together the mayor, the police, the judiciary, the delegation and the Civil Protection, with the mission of guaranteeing the security of the population.

Denoil Antenor, President of FENAMH and Mayor of Belle-Anse, also highlights the role of CASECs in territorial control. The installation of MSCs was carried out in just one week and represents an important step in the process of strengthening institutional cohesion for the benefit of citizens. After the great South, the great North and the West will be affected by this initiative, at the next meetings of the local authorities.

The establishment of municipal security councils is a strategic step to improve the protection of populations and strengthen coordination between local and national actors, before extending this approach to the other regions of Haiti.
