CARICOM-UA : Edgard Leblanc Sons, voice carrier of Haiti for restorative justice

Addis Ababa, 6 September 2025.- The summit, under the theme « Justice for Africans and people of African descent through reparations »will bring together international leaders and representatives. Haiti will be represented by Edgard Leblanc Fils, arrived in Addis Ababa this 6 September. He will speak on 7 September to defend the country's strategic interests and demand historic justice.

Haiti's participation in the 2nd CARICOM-African Union Summit reflects the country's willingness to position itself at the heart of the international debate on reparations related to slavery and the transatlantic trade. Through this meeting, the Transitional Presidential Council intends to reaffirm Haiti's legitimacy in the struggle for the recognition of injustices suffered and for solidarity between Afrodescendant peoples.

The Addis Ababa Summit will bring together several Heads of State, Government and international organizations, including the UN and the African Union. Discussions will focus on reparations, but also on strengthening strategic partnerships between Africa and the Caribbean. They will also include increased funding for the United Nations Trust Fund for Haiti and support for the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS), led by Kenya.

The presence of Edgard Leblanc Fils at this rostrum will mark an important milestone for Haiti. On 7 September, he will deliver a speech on behalf of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT) in order to advocate for solidarity cooperation, the defence of the interests of the Haitian people and respect for international commitments for the stability of the country.

The participation of Haiti at this summit will confirm its determination to obtain reparation, to strengthen its international and regional cooperation and to support national security and development while placing the country at the heart of the debate on reparations.
