Port-au-Prince, January 12, 2026.- The National Police of Haiti (PNH) has issued a warning on new methods used by armed gangs in the Bel-Air area. At a press briefing held on 12 January 2026, Commissioner Michel-Ange Louis Jeune, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Police Communication (DICOP), revealed not only the results of recent police operations, but also the infiltration strategies used by bandits.
According to the authorities, several heavy and handguns, including M14 and Kalashnikov rifles, were seized during these interventions earlier this year. Sensitive equipment such as PNH uniforms, bulletproof vests, gas cylinders, and even a vest bearing the inscription « Press »have been recovered.
In particular, the Commissioner stressed that some gang members do not hesitate to call themselves police officers or journalists to gain the confidence of citizens and avoid controls. According to him, this tactic constitutes a direct threat to public safety.
Michel-Ange Louis Jeune called the population to vigilance and not to be fooled by appearances. He reaffirmed the commitment of the HNP to regain control of areas dominated by criminal groups, stressing that the fight against insecurity also requires active cooperation among the population.
The police institution intends to continue efforts to dismantle armed networks and restore state authority in the most vulnerable neighbourhoods.
