Port-au-Prince, September 17, 2025.- The results of the baccalaureate exams in the West Department are of particular concern. Of the 1,628 schools that submitted candidates, 227 did not register any admitted students, with a success rate of 0%. On the other hand, 51 schools achieved a 100% success rate, and only 504 exceeded the 50% success rate.
In a context of increasing security deterioration in the West, 39,195 students actually took part in the exams out of 41,537 enrolled. The 2,342 who were absent were largely forced displaced persons, fleeing armed gang violence in several parts of the capital.
The case of the National High School of La Saline is a cruel illustration of this crisis: only one candidate is presented, and he has failed. The overall success rate in the department is only 40.68 per cent, with more than half of the establishments with less than 32 per cent success.
This situation highlights a deep educational crisis and serious inequalities between schools and geographical areas. It calls for urgent measures to improve the quality of education, particularly in the most vulnerable schools.
