Marchand Dessalines, July 18, 2025.- Contrary to rumours circulating after the armed attack by gang members « Kokorat San Ras » In Marchand Dessalines, on Thursday 17 July 2025, Mayor Dunord Cileus formally denied the disappearance of police officers. It confirms that no loss of life or injury is to be deplored, both in the ranks of the National Police and among the civilian population. However, the commissariat of the commune and two vehicles were set on fire by the attackers.
In a public statement on Thursday 17 July, Marchand Dessalines, Dunord Cileus, wanted to re-establish the truth about the alarming rumours circulating in the media and on social networks. According to rumours, two police officers were reported missing as a result of a violent attack by heavily armed individuals identified as gang members « Kokorat San Ras ».
The mayor categorically denied this information, ensuring that « all officers assigned to the Merchant Dessalines Office are safe and sound ». He said that no law enforcement personnel were abducted or injured during the attack.
However, the incident caused considerable material damage. The attackers had time to set fire to the commissariat. Two vehicles were also set on fire: one belonging to the Police Institution and the other, of a private nature, stationed near the targeted building.
« There has been no loss of life, neither in the ranks of the population nor in the police. »insisted Dunord Cileus, while calling for calm and vigilance.
Local authorities claim to work with the Haitian National Police (HNP) to strengthen security in the commune and avoid further assaults. The Mayor also urged citizens not to give in to panic or misinformation, and to show solidarity in these moments of instability.
