Fusion University 2025: a hundred South-East youth trained around the geopolitical issues of Haiti

Jacmel, August 24, 2025.- The Fusion party of Haitian socio-democrats organized, on Friday and Saturday, August 22 and 23, the 5th edition of its Summer University Serge Gilles. In the South-East Department, about 100 young schoolchildren, students and professionals gathered in Jacmel around the central theme: « Haiti, today faced with a changing geopolitical context ».

 

Held simultaneously in the 14 political regions of the party, Fusion 2025 Summer University offered two days of debate and training for South-East youth. The event took place at the Fantastic Hotel, Route des Orangers in Jacmel, in tribute to Serge Gilles, founding member and emblematic figure of social democracy in Haiti.

 

The Departmental Fusion Coordinator, Richard Jean Louis, stressed that the objective of this initiative is to: « channel young people into different areas to prepare them to meet the country's challenges ». For his part, Mr. Farah Calixte, local vice-coordinator of Jacmel, praised the commitment of the participants and encouraged them to join the party in order to benefit from its training programmes.

 

The departmental vice-coordinator Nixon Thélémaque said he was satisfied with the success of the 2025 edition, which allowed young people to reflect on the future of Haiti through sub-themes such as: the historical and political roots of the Haitian crisis, Haiti in the recomposition of global balances and the choice of social democracy.

 

Several renowned personalities took part in the discussions, most of them in distanciel, including Estelle Laure Gilles, Daniel Supplice, Michel Soukar, Pierre Josué Dahomey, Dr Paul Latortue, Laks Guivens Cadette, Dr Louis Nau Pierre, Alix Richard, Rosemond Pradel, Dr Robert Auguste and Edmonde Supplice Beauzile.

 

Young participants such as Victor Josué, Mirline Pierre, Jean Gledo and Saintilaire Daphcarline welcomed the initiative, highlighting the quality of the interventions and the knowledge gained. They call on other young people to join these spaces of reflection and encourage political parties to take concrete action to break the deadlock.

 

Through this 5th edition, Fusion confirms its willingness to place youth and civic formation at the heart of its political project, in a national context marked by geopolitical and social uncertainties.
