Washington, 15 July 2025.- The Trump administration issued an alert advising US citizens not to travel to Haiti, citing serious insecurity and continued terrorist activities since March 2024. This position contradicts the recent statements of the Department of Internal Security (DHS), which, by ending the Temporary Protection Status (TPS) for Haitians, affirms that the situation in Haiti has improved to the point of allowing the return of beneficiaries.
The United States authorities justify their warning by increasing abductions, armed crime, civil unrest and the weakness of the health system. They recall that since March 2024, Haiti has been in a state of emergency and that several American citizens have been abducted, injured or killed.
Yet, September 2, 2025 will mark the end of the GST for Haitian nationals in the United States, a decision announced by DHS secretary Kristi Noem. It is based on the assessment that conditions in Haiti have improved enough for beneficiaries to return to their country or regularize their migration status.
