Nassau, September 6, 2025.- While the United States recently announced that the US Embassy in Nassau would now process immigrant visa applications by Haitian nationals, the Government of the Bahamas strongly rejected the idea of allowing them to enter its territory for this purpose.
Prime Minister Philip Davis said the Bahamas will not become a transit point for Haitian citizens seeking American visas, according to The Jamaica Gleaner. This statement comes shortly after Washington's decision to designate Nassau as the processing centre for these applications.
The Bahamian authorities have stated that this new US policy does not imply any change in their entry conditions. In other words, Haitians will not be allowed to travel to the Bahamas only to initiate a U.S. visa application process, especially since restrictions have been in effect since June.
Mr. Davis recalled that prior obtaining a Bahamian visa remains mandatory for any Haitian citizen wishing to enter the territory. He also stressed that his Government had already tightened up migration measures over the past six months. — and intends to continue along this path.
