Port-au-Prince, December 6, 2025.- In a message published on Friday 5 December on Instagram, former Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe declares that any personal and political relationship with former President Michel Joseph Martelly is « final and irreversible » broken since 9 July 2021, the day after the assassination of Jovenel Moses. The former head of government, long considered one of the pillars of the regime Tèt Kale, even apologizes for having supported Martelly, qualifying this choice of « greater error » of his career. This declaration marks a historic break between two men who led Haiti together during one of the most controversial post-earthquake mandates.
Former Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe published this Friday an unambiguous text, going back to his past relationship with Michel Joseph Martelly, of which he was one of the closest collaborators between 2012 and 2014. « A lady said Martelly and I were a nice team. I will be very clear: this time has long passed », he says from the start.
Lamothe explains that the rupture, first silent, found its origins in 2014, when he left the Primature under political pressure. But a point of no return would have been definitively crossed on 9 July 2021, the day after the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse. « On that day, the rupture ended completely, permanently, irreversibly »He insists. Since then, the former Prime Minister assures, there is no « more team, more link ».
In both firm and introspective tone, Lamothe claims to have been « loyal for years »Maybe, he said, « too much ». He accuses the former president of practicing ingratitude and political manipulation, two behaviors become, according to him, modus operandi of Camp Martelly. « We can't move forward when loyalty no longer exists », he adds.
This message marks a public distance rarely observed in the recent history of the country, as both men formed a well-known alliance. Together, Martelly and Lamothe had launched several emblematic programs of the quinquennium, such as EDE PEP, Ti Manman Chéri, PSUGO, or the post-earthquake infrastructure projects. But their governance also remains associated with strong criticisms: financial opacity, accusations of corruption, controversial management of PetroCaribe funds, and a tense political climate that has prepared future crises.
In his publication, Lamothe goes even further: he apologizes to the population for having supported Martelly as President. « In hindsight, it was the biggest mistake of my life. », he writes. A heavy sentence of meaning, which opens a new chapter in the recomposition of Haitian political alliances and sheds new light on the internal dynamics of the Tèt Kale regime.
