Kingston, September 4, 2025.- Jamaica's Prime Minister Andrew Holness obtained a third term following the parliamentary elections on 3 September, thus realizing an unprecedented fact in the country's political history. The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), which he leads, won 34 of the 63 seats in the House of Representatives, compared to 29 for the National People's Party (PNP).

Despite the defeat, PNP leader Mark Golding praised his party's performance as promising results. He congratulated his opponent and highlighted the peaceful holding of the election, stressing the democratic maturity of the country. « The campaign was intense but free of violence — significant progress »he said, quoted by FranceInfo.

The election took place in a context of low electoral mobilization, with a turnout of only 39.5 per cent, equivalent to that recorded in 2020. Long queues and the slowness of the voting process have discouraged many voters, only the most determined to go to the polls.

With this victory, Andrew Holness inscribed his name in Jamaican political history, becoming the first head of government whose party chained three successive victories to the legislature.
