Jacmel: EDSEJ celebrates its 45th birthday and opens its new library named Eric Jean Baptiste

On the occasion of its 45th anniversary, celebrated this Friday, June 26, 2026, the School of Law and Economic Sciences of Jacmel (EDSEJ) organized a commemorative ceremony in Bréman, marked by the reopening of its library, now called « Éric Jean Baptiste Library ». This new space aims to strengthen students' documentary resources and promote reading within the institution.

The Dean, Mr Frantz Comonce, recalled that the EDSEJ, founded on 26 June 1981 with only five students, today welcomes more than 1,250 students divided among the departments of Legal Sciences and Economics. He reaffirmed the goal of providing the institution with modern infrastructure by its 50th anniversary and announced that, starting in the next academic year, the two promotion majors will receive a bonus of 50,000 gourdes to support the writing of their memory.

The ceremony also distinguished Thibaud Lore Haidare, winner of Éloquetia Jacmel 2026, and Roldine Richard, author of a collection of poems. Marie Taïchka Claude, at the origin of the project to reopen the library, praised the support of all the partners who contributed to its realization, while the students expressed their gratitude to the administration and the builders of the EDSEJ for their commitment to the development of the institution.
