Il a précisé que les personnes souhaitant obtenir une protection seraient désormais orientées vers des pays tiers, estimant que de nombreux demandeurs d’asile sont en réalité des migrants économiques, des personnes cherchant à bénéficier d’aides sociales, à rejoindre leur famille ou encore des individus ayant des antécédents criminels.
This statement comes a few hours after the US Supreme Court decision reinforces the executive's policy space for migration control. According to Stephen Miller, the asylum system is largely diverted from its original objective, which is to protect people who are actually persecuted. The Administration considers that these measures are aimed at combating asylum claims deemed to be abusive and at strengthening border security.
