At a conference organized on 17 June by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Director General of the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANARSE), Dr. Evenson Calixte, made an alarming observation of the energy situation in Haiti.
According to data from May 2026, of the 249 megawatts of capacity installed in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, only 30 megawatts are currently available, mainly provided by the E-Power power plant, reported the responsible, according to the Newlist. At the national level, only 10 additional megawatts are operational, including 8 megawatts from the Caracol network, which serves the municipalities of Caracol, Limonade, Trou-du-Nord, Sainte-Suzanne and Terrier-Rouge.
The person in charge of ANARSE described this situation as of particular concern, stressing the extreme weakness of the country's energy supply. He also reported that only 35 per cent of the Haitian population had access to electricity, compared with nearly 100 per cent in the Dominican Republic and an average of 97 per cent in Latin America and the Caribbean. Of the approximately 20 million people in the region, more than 7 million live in Haiti.
