West, August 3, 2026.- The Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR), through the Resilient Agriculture Project for Food Security (PARSA), has launched an operation to revitalise cunic farming in Grand Goâve for the benefit of 150 households affected by Hurricane Melissa. Supported by the World Bank, this initiative aims to restore the livelihoods of rural families, enhance food security and promote economic recovery.
The Ministry of Agriculture is continuing its rehabilitation efforts for the populations affected by Hurricane Melissa. On 22 July, MARNDR, through PARSA, distributed several hundred rabbits to 150 households in the commune of Grand-Goâve in order to revive family farming.
The operation, launched by MARNDR's director of animal production, Herline Joseph, took place in several localities in Gérard's 7th communal section, in the presence of the mayor of Grand-Goâve, Maxo Pinchinat, as well as the project's officials.
The beneficiaries, from the localities of Fauche, Glaise, Thozin and Becharde, each received three rabbits, two females and one male. This model should allow for rapid breeding of livestock and provide families with a sustainable source of income and food security.
MARNDR stresses that this intervention is a first phase of a broader programme. In the coming days, similar distributions will be made in the municipalities of Moron, Camp-Perrin, Torbeck and Les Anglais to accompany more households affected by the hurricane.
Implemented with financial support from the World Bank in the framework of PARSA, this programme is part of the Ministry's strategy to strengthen the resilience of rural communities, rebuild livestock and support the revival of agricultural activities following natural disasters.
