France: Prime Minister Lecornu resigns 27 days after his appointment

Sébastien Lecornu resigned to President Emmanuel Macron, barely 14 hours after announcing the composition of his government, and only 27 days after his appointment to Matignon. A first in the history of the Fifth Republic.

Under pressure from the opposition, which threatened to table a motion of censure, and in the face of controversy around some ministers, including Bruno Le Maire in Defense, Lecornu considered that the conditions « were not together » to govern.

This crisis revives Emmanuel Macron's calls for dismissal, notably from Mathilde Panot, who supports a petition to this effect. Lecornu was the fifth head of government appointed by Macron in two years.
