Jacmel, June 24, 2026.- Faced with the major challenges of education in Haiti, a major community dynamic is taking shape in the Southeast. The official launch of the University for Tomorrow's Awakening (unED) in Jacmel marks a decisive step as a result of a continuous educational evolution. Driven by a vision of innovation, digital modernity and social accessibility, this new university institution is designed as a collective project aimed at anchoring science at the heart of communities and awakening potentials to transform society sustainably. Licence registrations are already open.
Haitian higher education is enriched by a leading institutional initiative in the South-East Department. With the pooling of several leading figures in the education system, notably Claudy Donet, who are committed to quality education, the project of the University for Tomorrow's Awakening was officially launched following a solemn declaration. Far from being the initiative of a single entity, unED is defined above all as a collective work, born from the natural evolution of pre-existing educational structures: first INED (classical school), then INED (School Normale pour l'Enseignement demain), to reach today to this modern university pole. This path aims to provide a concrete response to the need for competent, rational and socially engaged managers.
A break with elitism and a community anchor
Established on its main campus in Fond Prince (Jacmel), the UnED is positioned against traditional university structures. Under the leadership of Dr. Lukinson Jean, President of the Council, the institution proclaims a philosophy of openness. For the designers of this project, knowledge must no longer be reserved for an elite, but become an accessible lever for building a more just, competent and humane society.
The central ambition of the UNED is to firmly anchor science at the heart of communities in order to generate a positive societal impact. By combining a requirement of rationality with contemporary scientific and technological progress, the university strives to awaken potentials and develop critical thinking. Students will learn to question, demonstrate and innovate in order to sustainably transform their environment.
« unED is primarily a community of builders. Together, we have a responsibility to create an education that inspires, educates and transforms. » entrusts Dr. Lukinson JEAN, Chairman of the Board of the UnED.
A hybrid model connected to the world
In order to operationalize this vision, UNED is deploying a modern strategy based on pedagogical innovation, applied research and digital integration into learning. One of the institution's major strengths is its hybrid and asynchronous training model. This flexible format allows students to reconcile their academic background with current socio-economic realities, while remaining connected to the major international scientific dynamics.
The movement officially starts with four faculties, structured to bring science, technology, humanity and social commitment together. Through these varied programs, the university is committed to forming a new generation of citizens capable of acting rigorously to meet the challenges of Haiti.
