Washington, 29 December 2025.- US President Donald Trump said, Monday, December 29, that the United States had hit a port area in Venezuela, he said, used for drug loading. This would be the first land operation publicly mentioned by Washington in the country since the beginning of the pressure against the government of Nicolás Maduro.
According to Reuters, Trump said that « large explosion » destroyed ships and returned the area « inaccessible ». However, he did not specify the exact target or the US agency involved, refusing to confirm or deny CIA participation.
Neither the White House nor the Pentagon nor the CIA commented on these statements. The Venezuelan government did not react and no independent report confirmed the incident.
A chemical plant in the state of Zulia, affected by a Christmas fire, denied any connection with Trump's comments, claiming that the incident had been quickly controlled. However, residents reported an explosion and an odour of chlorine.
The silence of the US authorities is fuelling questions about a possible clandestine operation.
