Lima, February 17, 2026.- Peruvian President José Jerí was dismissed by Parliament on Tuesday, February 17, after only four months at the head of state, marking a new episode of political turbulence at the top of power in Lima. He thus became the third consecutive head of state to be dismissed by a procedure of dismissal, confirming the chronic instability that shook the country's institutions.

The decision was adopted after a tense vote in Congress, in a climate of strong political divisions. Parliamentarians invoked constitutional grounds to justify this exceptional measure, considering that the President was no longer in a position to perform his duties.

This new dismissal, approved by 75 votes to 24, with three abstentions, is part of a series of institutional crises that have weakened Peru's governance for several years. Conflicting relations between the executive and the legislature, coupled with recurrent accusations of mismanagement or irregularities, have contributed to a cycle of confrontation leading to hasty changes in the presidency.

As the country goes through a period of uncertainty, the issue of democratic stability remains at the heart of the concerns. Acting power should be provided in accordance with constitutional provisions, pending the establishment of a new political direction.

This new crisis once again raises the question of the strength of Peruvian institutions and the capacity of political forces to restore confidence among a population that is tired of the repeated upheavals at the state summit.
