The President of the Electricity Union of Haiti, Pierre Michel Félix
Port-au-Prince, January 6, 2026.- Faced with the continuing degradation of the Péligre hydroelectric power plant, the president of the electricity union of Haiti (EDH), Pierre Michel Félix, denounces the silence of the authorities and calls on the state to fully assume its responsibilities. During an intervention on Radio Magik 9, on Tuesday, 6 January, he alerted about acts of sabotage, insecurity around infrastructure and the urgency of a coordinated government response to save this strategic national heritage.
A national heritage threatened
The Péligre hydroelectric power plant, a pillar of the production of electricity in Haiti, is undergoing a deep crisis. According to Pierre Michel Félix, repeated attacks on electrical towers, vandalism and sabotage have seriously affected production and distribution capacity. The union recalls that Péligre is a strategic good, built on several successive governments, and that it cannot be abandoned to its fate.
Techs mobilized, but security limits
The president of the union assures that the EDH technicians are present on the site and continue to provide essential technical operations. The integrity of the dam, as a hydraulic structure, is not directly threatened at this stage. However, the security environment remains extremely fragile, complicating interventions and repairs to damaged infrastructure, including towers.
Pierre Michel Félix openly questions the silence of some authorities, citing in particular the lack of clear communication on the critical situation of Péligre. It stresses the need for the State, including the Government and security institutions, to take firm decisions, to ensure the protection of the site and to mobilize the financial and human resources necessary for repairs.
Technical assessments were reportedly carried out by the relevant Directorates of EDH. However, the union believes that these steps remain insufficient if they do not lead quickly to concrete actions, adequate funding and a sustainable security plan, in order to revive production and meet the needs of customers.
