Washington, 1 August 2025.- As the famine threatens millions of people around the world, the United States, under Donald Trump's presidency, announces an emergency funding of $52 million to help four countries in crisis, including Haiti. More than 1.9 million people will receive this assistance through the World Food Programme (WFP). But despite the urgency, no delivery schedule is yet set for Haiti, and concerns are growing about the ability of this aid to arrive on time.

In an official statement, the US State Department announced an exceptional funding of $52 million in emergency food aid. Four countries are on the list of beneficiaries: the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Haiti, hard hit by insecurity, economic collapse and threats of famine.

This envelope will provide rice, vegetable oil, enriched cereals and broken peas in coordination with WFP. Food will come from prepositioned warehouses in Houston and Djibouti, with the aim of responding rapidly to humanitarian needs in critical areas.

But in Haiti, the blurry reigns. No specific delivery date has yet been communicated. Humanitarian actors fear delays and even logistical paralysis, as is already the case for some cargo blocked in Africa. « Haiti needs this help now, not in six months », alert an NGO official based in Port-au-Prince.

Although the United States reaffirmed its status as the world's largest humanitarian donor, the reality on the ground was more complex. In Haiti, the crisis worsens day after day, and without a clear distribution mechanism, the American promise could turn into a humanitarian mirage. For the most vulnerable families, every day counts.
