Caracas, 4 January 2026.- The Venezuelan Armed Force recognized Sunday Delcy Rodríguez as interim president for 90 days, on orders from the Supreme Court, following the fall of Nicolás Maduro in a US-led military operation. Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino denounced a « abduction » of the Head of State and announced death among his escorts, military and civilians.
In Venezuela, a major political shift took place this Sunday. The Bolivarian National Armed Force, the pillar of the Chaviste power, officially recognized Delcy Rodríguez as the interim president, in accordance with a decision of the Supreme Court entrusting him with the reins of the State for a period of 90 days.
In a television address, Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino read a statement detailing the judgment of the High Court and denouncing the « Cobarde abduction » of Nicolás Maduro. According to him, the operation would have cost the life « Cold blood » members of the presidential security team, as well as military and civilian personnel. However, no official record of the victims was provided.
The authorities accuse the United States of having carried out a military attack on Saturday in Caracas and nearby cities, killing and wounding people. In this context of high tension, Vladimir Padrino supported the decree of« external concussion »which Delcy Rodríguez claims to have been promulgated by Nicolás Maduro in order to « ensuring the governance of the country ».
The Minister also called on the population to gradually resume its economic, professional and educational activities, urging the country to return to its position. « on its constitutional track ».
In Caracas, the streets remained quiet Sunday morning, with mostly closed shops and light queues observed in some markets and pharmacies.
