Cap-Haitien, April 30, 2026.– On Wednesday, April 29, the Haitian government launched an emergency intervention in the Northern Department, facing multiple structural and environmental challenges. Initiated by the Primature, the mission brings together several key state institutions. This mobilization aims to quickly diagnose the situation and initiate appropriate responses on the ground, according to the Primature.
The Northern Department is facing a serious deterioration in its road infrastructure, complicating travel and economic activities. In addition, there are recurrent sanitation problems and accelerated deforestation that increase the risk of flooding, especially during rainy periods.
The authorities also point out the limitations in the management of local communities and the lack of essential public services, which increase the vulnerability of the population. In this context, the mission intends to strengthen civil protection mechanisms and improve coordination of interventions.
Technical teams and equipment were deployed for immediate actions, including on the most degraded roads. The government says it wants to provide quick answers while laying the foundation for a sustainable rehabilitation of the department. An initiative that has been taking place in a context where, for years, people have been denouncing the lack of in-depth actions capable of improving their living conditions.
