Pétion-Ville, 26 June 2025.- Wednesday, June 25, marked the first anniversary of the arrival of the initial contingent of the Multinational Support Mission in Haiti (MSS), led by Kenya. However, the situation continues to deteriorate: no territory has been taken over from gangs, and Kenya is now threatening to withdraw, denouncing a lack of commitment from the international community.

The Multinational Support Mission in Haiti organized a ceremony at the Karibe Hotel on Thursday to mark the first anniversary of the arrival of the first soldiers of the mission in the country. This activity took place in the presence of the Prime Minister of Haiti, Mr. Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, representatives of the diplomatic corps and several high personalities.

The main mission of MSS is to restore security, especially in Port-au-Prince, where armed gangs control a large part of the territory. A year later, Haiti remains plunged into a serious security, political and humanitarian crisis.

In a letter addressed to the President of the UN Security Council, Mohamed Irfaan Ali, and to the Secretary General, António Guterres, Kenyan President, SEM William Ruto, expressed his disappointment at the weak international support, both financial and logistical. According to him, only 40 per cent of the staff pledged were mobilized, and barely $68 million — 11 per cent of the 600 million planned — were released. « We are obliged to review our commitment »he wrote calling for a quick response before the end of the current mandate.

The MSS, already criticized for its ineffectiveness, is facing calls for its transformation into a United Nations-mandated peacekeeping mission.
