Haiti: Launch of PAIEC and PMF/GEF to support 30 green projects in the ten departments

 

The Ministry of the Environment launched, on Wednesday 13 May 2026, at the Karibe Hotel in Petion-Ville, the Programme to Support Citizens' Environmental Initiatives (PAIEC), as well as Phase 8 of the Global Environment Facility (GEF/FPM) Microfinancing Programme. The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, members of the government, technical and financial partners, as well as representatives of community organizations and young people involved in environmental protection.

PAIEC aims to support environmental initiatives led by citizens, young entrepreneurs and local organisations across the country's ten departments. The program provides funding for 30 projects, with grants ranging from 250,000 to 1,000,000 gourdes. Targeted sectors include waste management, recycling, reforestation, renewable energy and agroecology.

According to the authorities, this initiative is part of an approach to strengthening participatory environmental action. It focuses on the involvement of local actors in the implementation of sustainable solutions, with the objectives of improving the living environment, strengthening climate resilience and promoting practices conducive to ecological transition at Community level.
