Port-au-Prince, March 11, 2026.- The process of registering political parties for the next elections in Haiti enters its last straight line. Two days before the closing date of 12 March, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) claims to have already received at least 80 political party files. Following the closure of the registrations, the institution will verify the documents before publishing on 26 March the official list of parties authorized to participate in the voting.

Speaker on Radio Magik 9 Tuesday, March 10, CEP President Jacques Desrosiers said that no extension is envisaged at this time. He also recalled that a political party must obtain recognition from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security in order to take part in the elections, even if it is already registered administratively.

At the same time, the electoral institution is preparing for the next phase of the process: voter registration, scheduled from 1 April. Citizens will have to register in the electoral register in order to be able to vote, because the national identity card known as Dermalog alone is not sufficient to participate in the election.

CEP is also working to facilitate diaspora participation. Missions are announced in several countries, including Canada, the United States, Brazil, Chile and France, to identify polling centres. According to the electoral calendar, the first round of elections is scheduled for 30 August 2026, although the electoral authorities remain cautious about strict compliance with that deadline.
