Port-au-Prince, 29 July 2025.- On the occasion of the 19th edition of the Nation's Tuesdays, the Director General of the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES), Mr. Serge Gabriel Colin, presented the government's emergency humanitarian assistance plan. At the heart of this scheme is the distribution of more than one million hot dishes, the provision of drinking water, as well as the distribution of food and sanitation kits for internally displaced persons, mainly in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince.

During his participation in the 19th edition of the Nation's Tuesdays on Monday, 29 July, the Director General of the FAES, Serge Gabriel Colin, detailed the measures taken by the Institution to assist the thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) living in camps, a direct consequence of widespread insecurity.

Among the most notable interventions, Mr. Colin reported on the distribution of 1,013,042 hot dishes between March and July 2025 by FAES, followed by a network of community restaurants at several IDP sites. In Bourdon, where approximately 7,000 internally displaced persons live, seven community restaurants provide daily distribution of 7,000 meals seven days a week.

In total, 37 restaurants operate in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, 4 in the Central Plateau and 1 in Kenscoff, each with a daily capacity of 1,000 dishes. These restaurants directly employ displaced people, offering them not only food but also temporary work opportunities.

In addition, FAES has made a massive distribution of drinking water, including 9000 containers of 5 gallons of treated water, as well as the delivery of food kits containing cereals, cheese, milk, sugar and other basic products. Health kits for families of five are also distributed at several sites.

While acknowledging that the FAES is not yet present at all IDP sites, DG Colin has assured that the Institution is working to gradually expand its scope to reach more camps in the coming weeks.

This initiative is part of the government's emergency humanitarian response to the security crisis that has led to the displacement of thousands of Haitian families.
