Port-au-Prince, June 16, 2026.- The Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, arrived on Tuesday, June 16, in Haiti for an official visit marked by a renewed commitment to security, institutional stability and the organization of democratic elections. Hosted at Toussaint International Airport Opening by Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, the UN head intends to strengthen cooperation between the UN and the Haitian authorities at a crucial time for the country's future.
In a communiqué published by the Primature, the Prime Minister welcomed this visit, which he considers a strong sign of the international community's solidarity with the Haitian people. In his view, the Secretary-General's presence is in a context marked by efforts to restore security, strengthen institutions and create the conditions for democratic elections.
Alix Didier Fils-Aimé also reaffirmed Haiti's commitment to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, multilateralism and international cooperation. He stressed the importance of the historic partnership between Haiti and the United Nations, based on mutual respect and the search for lasting solutions to the challenges facing the country.
The Primature believes that this visit carries a message of unity, hope and trust. The Government reiterated its commitment to continue working with its national and international partners to build a safer, more stable and more prosperous Haiti.
