The government is taking action to unblock the modernisation of Antoine Simon des Cayes International Airport. On his way to the city on 25 April 2026, the Minister of Public Works, Joseph Almathe Pierre Louis, led a strategic meeting with officials of OFNAC, AAN and several stakeholders.
At the heart of the discussions are the obstacles related to the release of the right-of-way, considered the main obstacle to the rehabilitation of airport infrastructure. In order to respond quickly, a multisectoral monitoring commission was established. Placed under the authority of the airport coordination, the mission will be to speed up expropriation procedures and ensure better coordination with local authorities and the Haitian National Police.
The first actions announced concern the immediate release of the spaces already available and the accelerated processing of pending cases. The objective is clear: to create the necessary conditions for the effective resumption of work as soon as possible.
The Minister stressed the strategic importance of this project, which will serve several departments in the Great South and stimulate regional economic development. He also called for the cooperation of the owners concerned in order to transform the current tensions into a consensus for the advancement of the project.
