Haiti: Youth at the forefront of peace talks and national reconstruction in Rome

In Rome, the Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé held, this Friday, May 8, 2026, several working meetings devoted to issues of stability, youth and national revival in Haiti. In an exchange with representatives of the Community of Sant Egidio, the discussions focused on the social situation of young people, marked by insecurity, unemployment and difficulties of integration. The exchanges highlighted the need to strengthen public action on education, training and social support.

In a second meeting with international partners, including the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Haitian authorities addressed the priorities related to rural development and economic recovery. Discussions included agricultural production, improvement of rural infrastructure and the movement of goods, which were considered essential to support the national economy.

Discussions also focused on institutional reforms, particularly in the justice sector and the fight against impunity. The authorities reaffirmed their intention to strengthen mechanisms for the treatment of serious offences and to continue efforts to consolidate the State's presence throughout the country.
