Washington, July 14, 2026.- A Haitian delegation led by the Minister of Trade and Industry, James Monazard, is on a mission to Washington to advocate for the renewal of the HOPE/HELP law. Supported by Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, this approach aims to preserve an essential trade mechanism for the Haitian textile industry, tens of thousands of jobs and investments in the country.
Minister James Monazard is accompanied by representatives of the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH), the Association of Industries of Haiti (ADIH) and the private sector. During this mission, the delegation met with several officials from the United States administration, Congress, the State Department, the United States Chamber of Commerce and major organizations of the American textile industry to defend the extension of the HOPE/HELP Act.
Adopted in 2006 and reinforced by the HELP law, this legislation allows textile products made in Haiti to enter the US market without customs duties. This mechanism is one of the main drivers of Haitian exports and supports the development of the manufacturing sector.
According to James Monazard, the renewal of the law is strategic for the national economy. It will preserve tens of thousands of jobs, strengthen the competitiveness of enterprises, attract new investments and maintain Haiti's position in regional supply chains. Through this mission, the Government reaffirms its commitment to defend the country's economic interests and to strengthen its trade partnership with the United States.
