New York, July 8, 2026.- On Wednesday, July 8, a federal judge in New York ordered Donald Trump to pay the sum owed to writer E. Jean Carroll, after his conviction for sexual assault and defamation. The amount includes $5 million in damages awarded by a jury in 2023, plus approximately $800,000 in interest.
The jury recognized Trump as responsible for sexually assaulting Carroll in the 1990s in a dressing room at the Bergdorf Goodman department store in New York, then defaming him in 2022 after denying the charges.
Another judicial proceeding also ordered the President to pay additional $83 million to Carroll, but this decision remains suspended at the end of the appeal process.
Trump's lawyers announced their intention to challenge this new stage in the Federal Court of Appeal on the second circuit. However, the US Supreme Court has already refused to consider its appeal concerning the first verdict.
